Breaking up with a cherished girlfriend is one of the most painful things a man can experience. Maybe you saw it coming and maybe you didn’t. It doesn’t really matter at this point, because all you feel is a pounding pain in your heart and an emptiness in your life that is affecting your overall happiness. Right now you’re probably wracking your brain trying to think of ways of getting your ex girlfriend back by your side. Before you do anything rash, realize that there is a reason why you broke up and before you have a chance of reconciling with her, you need to stop and consider some things first. 1) Are you focusing too much on the separation and not the cause of the separation? Your gut reaction in this situation is to want to end the pain of separation as quickly as possible. That’s understandable. On the surface, the separation is what’s causing you this immediate pain. But take a step back for a minute and think about the reasons why the both of you are separated right now. What problems were you having before the breakup? What were you arguing about the most? When was the point that tension entered into your relationship? Answering these questions is a starting point to understanding what went wrong and what needs to be fixed in your relationship. 2) Think of this separation as an opportunity for you to work on yourself Instead of allowing the feelings of depression and anxiety to take over, allow your mind to accept that for the time being, you two are living separate lives. Choose to see this as a time of healing and recovery from some of the unpleasantness that happened between the two of you. Sometimes relationships need a break before they can heal. Instead of walking around in a daze or drowning your sorrows in food or drink, you can choose to take extra special care of yourself during this time. Pamper yourself with a long, hot bath, get a massage, go to a concert, take up a hobby, focus on getting in great shape physically and mentally. Read some books on self-improvement. Your goal here is to become a better person and partner. If you use this break time wisely, it will pay off handsomely down the road. 3) Come up with a strategy for reconciliation If you try to force your way back into your ex girlfriend’s life by making a pest of yourself, or coming across as too needy or insincere, you’ll fall flat on your face. Instead, sit down and think about how you will go about wooing your lady back into your life. If you’re going to do this right, you need a plan, and it has to be a good plan. This is not a time for tricks or immature games. If you want your girlfriend back for the long-term, you’ve got to be honest about your strengths, your weaknesses, and what you have to offer her – for real.
