The Shopping Challenge: Mother of the Bride Dresses

By: Sarrah Beaumont

Mothers of the brides and grooms out there pose a shopping challenge. First, it requires consummate skill to get them out of the house and second, mothers have a style of their own and don't readily go gaga over the latest designs out there for mother of the bride dresses.

Have You Landed that Dress Yet?

If you have spent two weeks scouring the shops and malls for mother of the bride dresses and have not found The Dress for your mom and your groom's mom, it can be frustrating and exasperating. Moms in their 60s and 50s are not likely to swoon over strapless and chifonny mother of the bride creations off-the-rack. Most moms want styles that suit their age without being left behind in the fashion sense. That's a challenge alright.

Like the bridesmaids, moms of the bride and grooms have their body shape, height, and build to think about and there are the body flaws to hide.

Well, there are some lucky moms who have maintained their weight, but just the same they have to choose the dress they'll love without compromising comfort and style. Luckily mother of the bride dresses come in different sizes, colors, and designs. However, moms find fitting these dresses an ordeal and they don't want people around when they check the fit.

Some moms hate to shop and hop from one store to another and you can't blame them. How about showing her the different dresses for the mother of the bride available for viewing online? She might find one that's her style. Once she wants a particular style, you can visit the shop for a fitting session or if the idea of going to the shop already exhausts her, measure her up as instructed on the website.

Shop Early

Like your bridal dress, shopping for the mother of the bride dresses should be done months before the wedding to give enough time to choose the dress. The exercise can be nerve wracking but once you have found the dress, you'll be as thrilled as your mom. The trouble is worth the tantrums . You can find a dress from the mother of the bride collections that are not matronly, not sickeningly flowy, or grandmotherly. After all, your mom is your mom, not your grandmother.

Shopping ahead of time, gives your mom time to rest in-between shopping marathons. As moms go, they won't quit until they find the dress from tons of dresses for mothers of the brides or they hate to shop but they want to look cute on your wedding day, so why spoil their chances of landing the one dress? Give the shopping time and go over online offers to have more choices - price, style, and perfect fit.
